Something for the weekend – new walking leaflet for East Meon
June 20, 2019
Discover the crystal clear waters of the River Meon and breath-taking views from the South Downs Way with this new walks leaflet.
Offering two beautiful walks, this leaflet takes you up onto part of the stunning South Downs Way – the 100 mile long National Trail which runs from Winchester to Eastbourne – giving you spectacular views out over the rolling Hampshire countryside.
You’ll also pass one of the sources of the River Meon known as ‘the swift one’ – keep a look out for otter and kingfishers, as well as a huge range of fish in the clear chalk filtered water. You might even be lucky enough to spot a water vole, or hear it ‘plop’ back into the water.
Starting and finishing in the quintessentially English village of East Meon make sure you leave some time to pause at one of the two pubs in the village for some tasty local delicacies.
Or why not take a moment to sit by the river, which runs through the centre of the village, and check out the restoration work which volunteers have carried out to help naturalise the river, improving the habitat for fish and plants.
