Wines & Gentle Inclines
31 August 2024
10.00 to 12.30
Gentle 6 mile walk
The UK’s bumper grape harvest of 2023 is expected to produce the best sparkling wine yet for Britain’s rapidly growing wine industry.
While we will need to wait a little longer to put this claim to the taste test, Upperton Vineyard, has several delicious sparkling wines from previous years for us to try at the end of this walk. As befits a vineyard walk, this will be more of a gentle summer’s promenade than ramble. We will be passing through local vineyards and beautiful parkland as well as viewing grand country houses and a church painted by both Turner and Constable.
On our return to Upperton there will be no formal tour and tasting, simply the opportunity to purchase a glass (or bottle) of their finest sparkling wine. This can then be enjoyed from their terrace, which looks out at the soft, wooded slopes of the South Downs beyond the nearby River Rother.
The location and views from Upperton are among the finest to be found in the Western Weald.
