Hangers Way – Section One
07 September 2024
11.00 to 17.00
A number of long distance trails pass through our area. There’s the South Downs Way, Serpent Trail, Lipchis Way and Monarch’s Way to name a few. However, the 21 mile Hangers Way starts and finishes in East Hampshire.
This makes it logistically straight forward to plan and complete in two manageable sections. Over the course of two weekends in September and October the plan is to walk the Hangers Way from Queen Elizabeth Country Park (QECP) to Alton. Not able to make both dates?
Don’t worry, join the sections that you can and complete the walk next year when there will be another opportunity to walk the trail. The first section is a 10 mile stretch from QECP to Hawkley. This involves two steep climbs. However, your reward is The Hawkley Inn at our destination.
Our start time has even been adjusted to ensure we don’t arrive between 3.30-5.30, when the pub is closed. Detail is everything 😊
Although the walk start location is QECP, we’ll gather in Petersfield Square and all catch the No. 37 bus to the park. Taxis will be arranged from Hawkley back to Petersfield at the end of the day (for those that would like this option). Cost: This walk will cost £8 per person if you would like a taxi back from Hawkley to Petersfield.
There is no cost if you prefer to make your own arrangements for transport at the end of the walk. Facilities: there are toilets at QECP and in Petersfield. Food and Drink: please bring these with you, we will not be stopping to buy food along the way. Booking your place: The Eventbrite booking system has been set up for this walk to be free. However, when you book you will be sent an email asking if you would like to pay for the organised taxi or not.
If you would like a taxi home you will be sent payment details and your place will be confirmed once the £8 per person has been received. This method of direct payment avoids the additional Eventbrite administration fee. Alternatively, please reply to the email saying that you will be responsible for making your own transport arrangements at the end of the walk. Distance: 10 miles Well behaved dogs on leads welcome
