Exploring the Drop Off

Exploring the Drop Off

07 August 2024

9.30 to 13.30

6 mile walk

Did you perhaps join a night walk last winter, stand by the bench on the edge of the hill, look into the dark and wonder what lay beyond the drop-off?

Or perhaps did Coombe With A View and now want to explore the Coombe that provided the breath-taking view? Well, this daytime walk dives over the edge and shines the light into the darkness and trees below.

This area is just as delightful by day as by night and it is not exclusively for those who have already done either the night walk or one to the edge. Who knows, the area’s allure might work in reverse too. After exploring it by day you might be inspired to try it by night too.

The area around Older Hill is a rich tapestry of heath, marsh and wild, ancient woodland. Know where to look and you will also find evidence of its Wealden iron industry heritage. However, this history seems incongruous with the peaceful haven that greets our eyes today. It is one of the most beautiful and tucked away parts of the Western Weald and well worth an explore. Well behaved dogs on leads allowed
