Come and celebrate the Roman festival of agriculture, Ambarvalia, at Bignor Roman Villa. From Saturday 25th May through to and including Sunday 2nd June. (Please note the site will be closed Tuesday 28th May) 10:00am to 3:30pm (10:00am to 1:30pm Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday) Activities include:
🕵♂️ Roman produce trail – Follow our Roman farm themed trail around the Villa and win a little prize.
🌾 Have-a-go flour milling – Using our replica quern stones, try your hand at corn grinding using corn from the farm.
🐑 Have-a-go wool spinning – A popular Roman pastime. Using a drop spindle, create your own piece of yarn from wool from the farm. 🫘 Plant a broad bean – Broad beans were a popular nutritious snack for the Romans. Plant your own to take away with you in a bio- degradable pot.
🖼 Mosaic making – Using paper mosaic pieces, create your own mosaic plate to take away with you.
🏛 Make a dedication to Ceres, goddess of agriculture – Leave a farm- themed drawing at Ceres’ shrine, it will help us to have a good harvest!
