Antarctic Lecture Series: From South Georgia to the South Shetlands – finding Shackleton amongst the rocks
27 February 2025
19:00 to Time
The discovery of Endurance in 2022, Shackleton’s ship from the Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition, has resulted in a resurgence of interest in this incredible story of human resilience in the face of nature’s overwhelming dominance.
This talk visits some of the key sites associated with the expedition in South Georgia, the Weddell Sea and Elephant Island contrasting historical accounts and photographs with the present day landscape, geomorphology and wildlife.
Dr Anthony Fogg works a geoscientist in the offshore windfarm industry.
He researched the museum’s seven part online blog which ran from 2020-2021 retracing Scott & Amundsen’s journey to the South Pole and formed the basis for a subsequent exhibition.
He also presented a lecture on the geology of Graham Land during the 2022 Antarctic Talk Season.
