Pervasive Plants

Pervasive Plants

Before trying to rid a pasture of a pervasive plant – one which spreads itself throughout a pasture, first be sure of correct identification.  Some years particular plants may do especially well for example; Yarrow, Bird’s Foot Trefoil, Red clover, can all have ‘boom’ years, but the advice is generally that left alone, these plants will resume a balanced population.

Consider:

  • That those plants that are not toxic or poisonous to horses, can be beneficial to them and support a wide variety of pollinating insects.
  • Getting to know the different plants within your own pasture.

Suggestions:

  • Use a plant ID guide (book or online app), or seek advice before altering management or removing a plant altogether.
