Location: The National Trust car park within the Slindon Estate offers easy access onto the South Downs Way. With surrounding views making it ideal for stargazing. The location can be accessed through the village of Bignor via the southbound “no through road”. With the Roman Villa on your right, carry on along the road as the road forks, take the left past Jay’s farm. Continue up this steep and bumpy track for around 1.2miles to the car park.
Bignor Hill is a hill near Bignor in Sussex of which the South Downs Way passes over the hill. There is an old Celtic legend that a dragon had its lair on top of the hill and its remains can be seen in the folds of the ground.
At the most northerly tip you will find two of the highest points, Bignor Hill with views down into the Arun Valley, and Glatting Beacon, adorned with radio masts, making it a prominent local landmark. With a hill top car park, Bignor is an ideal location to enjoy dark skies, star sprinkled nights, and far reaching views.
